New York City 22nd High School Reunion, 40th Birthday and hoping I'll find my shoes after bar hopping with the Irish

Going to be busy as usual in New York City. Have many people to meet and places to go...all over the place.  Luckily transport is a snap and characters on board make for great entertainment.

Here's a few things of what's on my short agenda:

Sunday visiting my best friend and her three gorgeous children in Lido Beach on Long Island. Takes me about 1 hour from Manhattan to get there. I love chillin' out on board Long Island Railroad watching those who act wacky in Manhattan suddenly become well behaved exit Jamaica, Queens station ;-P

22nd High School Reunion. Going to be at my high school in Manhattan a block away from my Mom's apartment.  After will go out bar hopping with my childhood classmate friend.  Last time we did that I ended up walking home without shoes in sub zero weather. Hate when that happens!

Meeting for first time with his wife a "Web 2.0" long time contact. Giving them a native New Yorker tour of less known hot spots with fran-tastic views. They have been to NYC many times but I'm going to surprise them with a few spots.

I can do my Manhattan tours in a flash. I've also hit the five boroughs in one day. It's not for the faint at heart or slow paced. Where I walk no grass grows. I kind of walk and talk fast.  When taking family and friends around NYC I usually offer them a side trip walks around West Harlem, South Bronx and other assorted rough around the edges hide-a-ways of Brooklyn and Queens. Until this day the only people in past 39 years to take me up on the offer were my cousins from Palermo, Sicily. They did though not want me to walk them around. They said seeing from taste of subway rides and platforms was enough! :-P

I always get asked about Ground Zero.  I take people there even though it makes me sad and do so with a heavy heart. Since Wall Street is usually on my tour I give them option to visit Ground Zero.

40th Birthday happens to be around this time. I never have too many set plans in NYC. It's not that kind of city ;-)

My hometown New York City, there is no other place like it. You must see and experience it, if only once in your lifetime.

I have another Posterous www.posterous.com/newyorkology  Will start posting all things New York when remember. Until then please feel free to enjoy In Vino Veritas...

I for one would be very interested in your suggestions of what to see in the Bronx, Harlem and Queens. "Five-boroughs-in-one-day" sounds like a tour someone should be running!
Is your other posterous up and running?
I'm really missing south east Asian food in this city - Vietnamese, Cambodian, Malaysian, Singaporean.

You make me laugh about my five boroughs in one day comment! I am funny like that. If I have one day with someone out of town I try to hit all five boroughs just to touch ground. This way they can say they've technically been all over. NewYorkology posterous is up but have not yet posted anything. A bit back logged so will have to post when have more time to think. I'm usually haphazard about writing which always gets me into trouble/misunderstandings!

You bring up an interesting point about East Asian food in the city. I can't say I know much about East Asian foods or too many places to recommend. I can understand how the dime a dozen Asian fusion places a connoisseur like yourself would be bored with. Last time I had Malaysian food was years ago at Penang. Here are the listings: http://www.penangusa.com/location_upperwest.html

I wonder if by Main Street area in Flushing, Queens there would be a good variety.

I would like to exchange my email address but can't here since public! If you think of a solution let me know. In the meantime I'll post here when sign in.

Next time I'll post some places for you to check out in Bronx and Harlem.
Also if you would like, I'll take you on a mini-tour of some favorite great view places when in and around the boroughs.

Ciao,
F

Ciao Francesca,

Any kind of mini tour would be great!

I have heard Flushing is the place for East Asian food, so I'll check it out. Thanks for the Malaysian listing. No other suggestions?

Si, please post suggestions for the Bronx and Harlem. What I know about where to go in that Borough and neighbourhood I could tattoo on the back of a postage stamp.

I'm not sure how to get around the public disclosure of email addresses, too. If you did want to meet up some time, we could probably organise it as a meet up at a particular place and time.

cheers

Sounds good. I will be in the city for a few next week and probably the holidaze. Take a stroll on Fifth to check out window displays. Each year is a surprise. Some years better than others. Of course take a stroll over to Rockefeller.
